Photography for me has been a passion that comes and goes. It is
something I enjoy doing that is the process and the
results have always been a surprise left for "a later date",
like opening a surprise gift.
I remember how after saving to get my first SLR camera while a
teenager, I spend countless hours taking pictures without film (I
had spend all my money on the camera and film was something to try
later on).
Observing, framing, playing via the lens offered the opportunity
to view the world from a different perspective as well as from a
"safe spot". As you may imagine, the results were not
on the film but on my minds eye.
However, during a visit to my native Buenos Aires - Argentina in
1995, I spend several hours with a friend in the subways of that
city composing the images you can find following
this link. Just like in the past, the results surprise me as
much as when I first started developing film and making prints.
Some workshops and professional training aided me in concentrating
a bit more on technique, and allowed me to enrich my composition.
Nevertheless, the results have always been my own as I tried to
"freeze time"; to take a moment, place, situation, and
transform it all into an experience that some times is quite abstract
and often rewarding.
Today (2003), with the advances in digital photography the focus
has changes somewhat. Now it is a bit more WYSIWYG (what you see
is what you get) when I don't use film. However, there is still
room for experimenting.
